Scene Study is a weekly workout for trained actors, allowing them to dive deep into scripts, characters, and emotions to ensure they are at the top of their game when their opportunity arrives.

We all want the opportunity to sink our teeth into a meaty character or a dynamic conflict. Scene Study at EMAS is your opportunity to consistently flex your acting muscles and refine your craft. Through working on scenes of various genres, the actors discover their strengths and weaknesses with the help of a trained director’s eye.

About This Class

Because we are applying acting techniques to specific scene performances, all members of this class must have extensive training and/or experience. Class size is limited so that each actor works in every class.

Scene Study meets once a week and students are expected to be prepared for every class with a minimum of 3 hours of outside rehearsal. You will always have an acting partner, so your obligation goes beyond yourself to your classmates. The success of the class depends upon the passion and commitment of each student. Class size is limited to ensure personalized attention and plenty of stage time.

There will be 3 rounds of scenes, each will be worked on for 4 classes. We follow a traditional rehearsal process:

Week 1: Table Read
Week 2: Coaching Session
Week 3: Director’s Session
Week 4: Performance & Evaluation

Scene partners are assigned by the instructor-director, and students are required to meet with their partners, select a scene, and have a fully worked-up table-read prepared for the first day of each round of scenes.
