ACTING FOR BEGINNERS: The Character in Performance
The Character in Performance class gives acting students a foundation in creating truthful, dynamic characters for film, television, or stage. It teaches techniques that find the character’s voice, physicality, and psychology. Students work on strengthening their vocal and physical presence, creating characters that are believable yet completely different from themselves. Through exercises, script analyses, monologue and scene work, students acquire a comprehensive set of “acting tools” to draw upon when approaching a role.

October 28 - december 9, 2025. Tuesdays at 10:30 am - 1:00 pm
VOICE FOR THE ACTOR: a fitzmaurice workshop
An actor is limited only by the range of their
instrument. This instrument includes the
voice, body, breath, and emotional accessibility. This class allows students to add conservatory-level voice training to their curriculum. The Fitzmaurice Technique is designed to let your body and voice work with freedom and full expression to access your creativity and emotional range.

January 14 - March 18. Wednesdays at 2:30 pm
ACTING FOR BEGINNERS: Exploring Technique
Our 10-week Exploring Technique class offers valuable exercises and performance experience to develop a strong acting foundation by exploring the Actor’s Instrument. It gives new actors an understanding of how actors train, use their voice, body, and imagination, and an introduction to the vocabulary that is used in the industry.

Auditions for January 2026 start in November
Scene Study is a weekly workout for trained actors, allowing them to dive deep into scripts, characters, and emotions to ensure they are at the top of their game when their opportunity arrives.
We all want the opportunity to sink our teeth into a meaty character or a dynamic conflict. Scene Study at EMAS is your opportunity to consistently flex your acting muscles and refine your craft. Through working on scenes of various genres, the actors discover their strengths and weaknesses with the help of a trained director’s eye.
