Master Accents and Dialects: A New Course for Actors Ready to Expand Their Range

You've nailed the audition sides. Your emotional prep is solid. But then you see it in the breakdown: "British accent required" or "authentic Southern dialect a plus."

For many actors, dialect work is the skill they know they need but haven't had the chance to develop. And in today's casting landscape, that gap can mean the difference between booking the role and watching it go to someone else.

That's why Elizabeth Mestnik Acting Studio is offering a new Accents & Dialects for Actors course this winter—a workshop-style class built to give you practical, usable dialect skills you can bring into auditions and onto set.

Why Dialects Matter More Than Ever

Casting directors are looking for specificity. They want actors who can embody a character fully, and voice is a huge part of that. A believable dialect isn't just about sounding right—it's about understanding how that voice shapes who the character is, where they come from, and how they move through the world.

When you walk into an audition with a confident, grounded dialect, you're showing the room something important: you're versatile, you're prepared, and you take your craft seriously.

What You'll Learn

This course focuses on three of the most in-demand dialects for film, TV, and theatre:

British (RP & Contemporary) — From period dramas to modern London settings, British dialects remain a staple in casting breakdowns.

New York — Whether it's Brooklyn edge or Manhattan polish, the New York sound opens doors to countless character types.

American Southern — One of the trickiest dialects to get right, and one of the most requested. When you nail it, you stand out.

But this isn't just about mimicking sounds. You'll learn the mechanics behind each dialect—the rhythm, placement, and musicality that make it feel authentic rather than performed. You'll work with sides and improv prompts to build skills that stick. And you'll walk away with a toolkit you can apply to any dialect you encounter in the future, including IPA basics, vocal warm-ups, and practice techniques.

Who This Class Is For

This course welcomes actors at all levels. You might be newer to dialect work and looking for a solid foundation. Or maybe you've dabbled but want structured training to take your skills further. Either way, if you love exploring character through voice and want to expand what you can offer in the audition room, this class is for you.

Course Details

The class runs for 10 weeks on Tuesday afternoons, giving you consistent time to build and refine your skills.

  • Dates: January 20 – March 24, 2026
  • Time: 3:30 – 5:30 PM
  • Instructor: Elizabeth Mestnik

Your Next Role Might Be One Dialect Away

There's a reason dialect coaches stay busy on professional sets. Voice work matters. And the actors who invest in this skill set themselves apart.

If you've been waiting for the right opportunity to sharpen this part of your craft, this is it.
